American Aqueduct
Ungenda and Garth Murray
12' x 14' x 4 ' (pond) x 110' (length of wall/channel)
Stone w/ concrete foundation, waterjetted steel grates, blown glass, copper, LEDs
2008
The aqueduct is my grandest creation thus far, one of many collaborations with the talented Garth Murray. Laying in my ivory tower on the shores of nearby Matthews Beach, clutching wildly at the heavens of my imagination, I pulled down and then realized this vision. This sculptural stone installation snakes its way through a Sand Point back yard and spills into a pool in a glorious finale of intricate stonework and glass blown with embedded copper pipe. Water continuously sprays out of the center glass piece, and overflows out of the cast leaf in the pond. The five blown glass "flower" pieces are illuminated by LED strips wrapped around their copper "stamen."
